Simon Johnson Christmas Panettone is a classic sweetened, yeasted bread from Italy, studded with dried fruit. Limited time only.
Panettone for many people is synonymous with the festive season but not all panettone is created equal. We’ve done the hard yards and tasted what’s on offer and we declare this Christmas Panettone from Simon Johnson ‘Best in Show’!
Light and airy with a soft crumb, this lightly sweetened and yeasted bread is stuffed with lashings of rich butter and candied fruit. The production process is notoriously tricky and involves hanging the baked bread upside down while it cools to retain its tender crumb and signature height.
Like so many good things, it is made in Italy. Presented in a gorgeous gift box, it makes an ideal gift for your loved ones or yourself. Enjoy for breakfast with your favourite butter & preserves with a Market Lane Coffee or Champagne - or prosecco if we’re keeping with the Italian theme.
A little history of Panettone
Originating in Italy, panettone has spread across the world and has been embraced by many as part of their Christmas tradition. The bread is thought to stem from Roman Empire times when a small loaf cake (panetto) was made with honey and has been linked with Christmas since the 18th century.
Fun fact – Italy produces 117 million panettone (and its cousin pandoro) every year. Naturally, we think this one is the best!
Available in 1kg and 100g for a limited time only.
