A little history about Crawford River
Crawford River is in far, far south-west Victoria, Gunditjmara country, in the Henty wine region. In a region known more for sheep farming & wool, beef & dairy production it took a couple of visionaries to experiment with grapes here in the 1970s. Catherine & John Thomson were just the pair for the job. The eponymous young vines refer to blocks planted in 2000 as opposed to original plantings on the estate which stem from the mid-1970s. The cool southerly latitude along with complex soil structure and favourable micro-climate gives the area a unique terroir for their wines. Grapes are hand-picked, processed and bottled on the estate, without any filtration.
